Premium Lens Implants in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania

Also called premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) or advanced-technology IOLs, premium lens implants can improve your vision with cataract surgery.

What Are Premium Lens Implants?

Premium lens implants are advanced-technology intraocular lenses. They can replace your natural lens to correct refractive errors in the eye. Unlike traditional intraocular lens implants, which only allow you to see at a single distance, premium lens implants can correct both near-sightedness and far-sightedness. Some can even correct astigmatism without the need for glasses or removable contact lenses.

Who Can Get Premium Lens Implants?

Anyone experiencing vision loss due to cataracts or refractive errors may be a candidate for premium lens implants. However, while they are generally safe and effective for most people, they are not recommended for all patients.

Patients with severe corneal disease or glaucoma may not be suitable candidates for this procedure. You may also not be a candidate if you have a history of retinal detachment or macular degeneration.

It is important to discuss your medical history and existing eye conditions with your eye doctor. They will determine if premium lens implants are the right choice for you. Your doctor will assess your situation and recommend the most appropriate treatment options.

What Are the Benefits of Premium Lens Implants?

Premium lens implants offer many benefits over traditional lens implants. They allow you to see at multiple distances. They can also reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and contacts, saving you time and money in the long run. Premium lens implants can also improve your quality of life and permanently enhance your vision. Patients who receive premium lens implants also report better night vision and improved color perception.

How Long Do Premium Lens Implants Last?

Premium lens implants are designed to be a permanent solution to vision problems. With proper care, they can last for the rest of your life. However, it is important to follow up with your ophthalmologist regularly to ensure your eyes remain healthy.

Clear Lens Exchange Procedure

Clear lens exchange or replacement surgery is an outpatient surgery. This procedure takes approximately 15-30 minutes per eye. The procedure uses local anesthesia, and patients typically experience minimal discomfort. The process involves making a small incision in the eye and removing the clear natural lens. After we have removed your natural lens, we will replace it with a premium lens implant.

Once the implant is in place, we will close the incision and allow your eye to heal. You may experience discomfort or sensitivity in the treated eye, but this is typically mild and resolves quickly.

You should see improved vision shortly after surgery. After the procedure, we will prescribe antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops. You should use these for several weeks to ensure proper healing. Avoid rubbing your eyes after treatment and wear any recommended eye protection. You should also avoid strenuous activity. Contact us immediately if you notice unusual symptoms such as increased pain, redness, or vision changes.

Light Adjustable Lens (LAL)

Light adjustable lenses (LALs) are a type of advanced-technology intraocular lens that can be customized to improve your vision after cataract surgery. These lenses are made from a special material that can be adjusted using UV light. This allows for fine-tuning of your vision after lens implantation.
